The Gold Coast Runners club had a fantastic weekend competing with 14 teams in the Endeavour 500 Relay event. We managed to raise over $3,000 for the Endeavour Foundation and came in 7th out of 14 teams. The weekend had lots of exciting moments including being pulled off the course late Saturday afternoon as thunder and lighting raged around us, the thrill of watching our Captain Oates true competitive spirit which caught fire after an opposing female runner scalped him and made the mistake of saying good luck as she passed him – we all know who won that leg in a dramatic up hill finish.
We also had a lot of fun with an internal competition between the second TRS team filled with many fellow Gold Coast friends who we did manage to beat overall on the weekend (even though it was only by a minute over the three days). For those new to the club our team came in second last in 2011 so we are really excited about the 2012 results.
Big thank you to Damon for patiently driving the follow car throughout the entire weekend, Amber for the loan of the water truck vehicle, Lee for her fantastic work in the water truck all weekend, Klaus for driving the bus and getting us to the best spots along the way to cheer our runners on, Carol C and Martine for organizing the food, Jimmy for offering some needed massage along the way and of course our Captain Oates for keeping it all together. Also a big thank you to Hans for donating the delicious sandwiches and sweets and Leonie for the fantastic Anzac cookies.
As you can see it’s a real team effort and a fun weekend. Come along this Sunday at 6:30am at Justins Park for our regular club run to hear all the inside stories.
Congratulations to Carol Sayers who came 2nd in her age group at the Maui Running Festival 10km event.
Well done Carol!

A great day on the mountain today…click on the link for a photographic snapshot of the run
Tomewin Mountain Challenge
Firstly, Congratulations to Tony and Philippa who won the mystery run last Sunday. We were given a distance and we had to predict the time it would take us. Tony was the closest male and Philippa was the closest female. Garry finished the course in the fastest time!
Next Sunday we are having a club run from Justin’s Park. Meet at 6:15am for a 6:30am start.
Good luck to those people competing in The Tomewin Mountain Challenge on Sunday. I believe Supportaroo will be there cheering you on. It’s not too late to enter if you love hills.

Thanks to Grant Sawtell for providing the perpetual trophy and prizes for this event. It is always lots of fun and today was no exception. A thrilling end with Tony edging out Amber by just one second!
All other results are now available the website
We had a great turn out for our first time trial of the year and the heavy rain held off.

Congratulations to Carol and Merv who recently ran in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series in Las Vegas.
Carol completed her half marathon in 1hr 48m 53s in very chilly weather and Merv did his marathon in a time of 4hr 41m. It was a twilight run which is a bit unusual.
A great experience for both.

The team had a great weekend with everyone doing their best under some trying conditions. We had some very hot days and of course plenty of flies. We had an early start every morning which everyone really looked forward to!
Day one started in Brisbane with 2 criteriums which was great to watch. When finished we headed off to Beaudesert for breakfast and the road relay to Rathdowny for lunch and then onto Boonah where we finished off with a Criterium. Then onto Warwick for the night.
Day two started at Swan Creek and we ran into Kilarney for breakfast then onto Warwick for lunch. Half the team did the criterium while the rest had to do the restart out of Warwick and run to Greenmount where we finished just on dark. A very long and hot day on the road. We got into Toowoomba quite late but made the most of it and ordered some food and brought it back to our cabins where everyone had a great time talking over the weekend so far.
Day three everyone was looking forward to the finish and those famous pies at Fernvale. But of course there was a bit of a road relay to complete along the way.
Thanks to everyone for making it a great weekend. I haven’t laughed so much! Well done to everyone for making the effort to wear some loud clothes.
Also congratulations to the following for recieving their badges for completing the event:
Sandra 25 years
Klaus 20 years
Peter Mc 10 years, and
Lee 10 years.
A great achievment.
